Services


All of our services, with the exception of Turning Point Battered Women's Shelter, are available through our main office at 1404 Murray Street in Alexandria.  Please call 318-448-0284 for more information.

General Counseling
Comprehensive individual, marital, family and group therapy are provided by Agency staff members.  Their expertise covers a wide range of critical topics including parent-child issues, stress management, depression and anxiety, anger control, current and past victims of childhood abuse as well as issues impacting divorce, grief, school and work relationships.  Through the generous support of the United Way of Central Louisiana, fees are based on a sliding scale and vary according to income and family size.
 

Turning Point Battered Women's Shelter
Residential Services:  A safe and confidential emergency shelter for battered women and their children.  In addition to food, clothing and shelter, services include counseling for adults and children, case management, legal advocacy, life skillls training, support and education groups, as well as tutoring and child care.
Non-Residential Services:  Counseling, legal advocacy, support and education groups are offered to survivors of domestic violence and their children who do not require the residential services at Turning Point Shelter.  Currently, outreach services are available in Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Rapides and Winn parishes.
Community Education & Professional Training:  Domestic violence education and community awareness activities are promoted by staff throughout the seven parish service area.
 

Domestic Abuse Intervention Program
A 26 week program designed for perpetrators of domestic violence.  Participants are court- and self-referred.
 

Sexual Assault Center
The Center offers crisis intervention and counseling services to aid victims of molestation, rape and sexual assault.  Counseling is also offered to the victims' family members, when needed, to help them understand the dynamics of sexual assault and to provide support.  Additionally, community education and professional training are provided to schools and employers, as well as to law enforcement and social service agencies.  24 hour crisis line:  318-445-2022 or 1-800-960-9436.
 

Family Preservation Services
Family Counseling Agency is under contract with the State of Louisiana through the Office of Mental Health and the Office of Community Services to provide an array of home-based services for families.  These services provide in-home therapy for families with children at risk of psychiatric hospitalization and families at risk of child abuse and/or neglect..
 

Elder Victims of Crime Program
The Agency works in partnership with law enforcement to provide a safety net for elder citizens who are victims of crime in the form of exploitation, abuse or neglect (physical, psychological and sexual).  Through counseling and support, an Agency Advocate provides referrals and resource information to elderly crime victims and their family members.
 

Independent Living Program
This program focuses on assisting adolescents who are in the foster care system to make a healthy transition to successful independence in the community.  services include assessment of needs, educational workshops, goal planning and short-term counseling, when needed.  Participants graduate with well-rounded knowledge and skill-base that will facilitate a smooth transition to independent living.
Positive Youth Development:  A two-day training program designed to help foster parents and foster care workers guide young people through all levels of the evaluation, planning and delivery of services relevant to their development.  Young people are encouraged to establish goals in order to achieve positive outcomes in partnership with their families and the staff.
Education Training Voucher Program:  The Foster Care Independence Education and Training Voucher Program is a Federal Program designed to assist current and former foster youth in accessing post secondary education and training programs.  Individuals actively enrolled in these programs remain eligible until age 23.
 

Family Care Givers of Seniors Support Services
The Agency maintains a resource library that provides information, education and support to family members who provide care for seniors.  Topics include environmental safety, communication skills and self-care.  This material may be checked out by care givers.
 

Community Education
Presentations are designed and facilitated to enrich the lives of families, couples and individuals throughout the Agency's eight-parish service area.  Special emphasis is placed on sexual assault and domestic violence education and awareness.
 

Professional Education
The Agency facilitates training on domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and elder abuse for the professional development of individuals working in health care, law enforcement, education, social services and the judiciary.  Staff members are also involved in training at the Alexandria Police Officers' Academy and for the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Department's School Resource Officer Program.  Agency Staff also provides perpetual support to officers in the field when they need assistance.
 

Volunteer Opportunities
Opportunities abound for individuals and groups to make a difference in each of our communities by donating their time and talents.  Volunteers are recruited, screened and extensively trained to provide coverage on the Agency's Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Crisis Line after office hours and on the weekends, to provide support to victims at emergency rooms, and to escort clients to court.  Other roles volunteers may choose to fill are assisting with residential services at Turning Point Shelter, assisting with Agency fundraisers, speaking to community groups on behalf of the Agency, and participating in educational workshops for youth living in foster care.
